Skincare Is Not A Female Privilege
I don`t know about you, but in my surroundings, male skincare is still a bit taboo... OK, taboo is probably a strong word, but most of my friends are not open to talking freely about their skincare regime - what products they use, how often and why.
So, my goal here is to change this, talk openly about the subject and, most importantly, offer some much needed advice to all those that need it.
Skincare Trend In Men
Luckily for us, all the major skincare companies recognized that we men also enjoy taking care of our skin, so we are seeing a rise in various products for facial skin, body, hair, lips and sun protection.
Let`s Talk About Male Skin
This may come as a surprise for you, but female and male skin are different... very different, in fact! Some of these differences are (source: Eucerin):
Thickness - male skin is tougher and thicker than female skin (in some areas even 20% thicker!) and contains more collagen.
Aging - male skin ages differently - signs of aging appear later in life. Wrinkles also appear later but when they develop they can be more dramatic.
Oil - men have more pores and more sebaceous glands. Our pores are also larger and our skin produces as much as double the oil female skin does. On the flip side, male skin is more prone to impurities and acne.
So, as you can see, male and female skin is very different and (though you can) you shouldn`t use female skincare products. There are those that are specially formulated for men and we will be talking about just those!
Facial Care - facial skin is a lot more sensitive compared to the skin on the rest of our body. Also, it is not as well protected as skin on other parts of your body (which we cover with clothes). The sun and harmful rays are constantly beating it so it is vital that you adopt a solid facial skincare regime.
If nothing else, you should at least clean your skin on a regular basis. And this is where most men get it wrong, because they use a common bar soap. Even though there are soaps that are good and recommended for everyday use, they will usually dry out your skin, so they are not the best solution for your face. Ideally, you should use a face wash. Body Skin Care - even though skin on our body is not as sensitive as the one on our face, it doesn`t mean we should neglect it! When I ask them, most people tell me that they only scrub their body when taking a bath... using a common bar soap as well. In most cases, this is enough, but if you have skin problems you should consider buying a specialized body wash for your skin type. And if you just want to smell good, you can read This Article.
As you can see, there are a lot of nuances, nothing is black and white when our skin is concerned. Often times, you can find the products for your specific skin type on your own, but sometimes it is a good idea to rely on someone more proficient than yourself!
